The F-word and its Versatility
I did a series of hand lettered post cards for a gallery show I was in. They will soon be letterpressed and for sale, by popular demand.

What I do at Shopbop.com
A lot of people are confused about what I design at my current job at Shopbop.com. Here is a good example of how I put a bunch of "raw materials" together to illustrate a fashion concept in an interesting way.
This is another one of my favorites, a lookbook for Thakoon.
Enjoy friends!

The Sincerest Form of Flattery
I'm in love with this artist I just discovered a couple of days ago and I decided it was okay to copy her if I let you know how amazing she is. Her name is Yallena James and she rocks my world. Here are my first attempts at discovering her style through imitation.

Safety first
I did this for my dad. He works with heavy machinery and such. He's the Safety Captain or Chief or Honcho or whatever. He wanted a safety poster because, "These little dip shits keep injuring themselves."
They didn't pay me but I laughed a lot while I was designing it and I used way more fonts than I needed to just because I could, so I guess it's okay. These little four hour projects are my favorite.

I gotta make
Frank Chimero said it best the other day at Design Madison — "Some people, they just gotta make."
I just gotta make... as many things pretty as my little hands possibly can before I leave this world. Every second is an opportunity to make something beautiful.
"This work fills you up," said Chimero, frankly. True that Franky baby, true that.

You like me! You REALLY like me!?
I am honored to say that my hard work and dedication to the Art Department at MATC was rewarded today. I received an award for Visual Arts Student of the Year. Allow me to toot my horn a bit! *Toot, toot*
Thanks for reading. We will now continue with our normal programming.

Learning to sew again

I decided after searching for weeks for my ideal portfolio and case that I just needed to make my own. So I got some really nice card stock for the interior - Neenah Classic Crest in Epic Black. I cut black boards for the outside with hinges and decided to do post hole binding. I got all the following supplies at Dick Blick:
Heavy duty black board $6.00
Lineco spine repair tape $15.89
Pina Zangaro adhesive hinge strips (already 4 hole punched, really took the guess work out) 10 packs are $10.20ea
Pina Zangaro screwpost kit $4.68
Bookboard hold puncher$11.85
So I cut two boards down to be a bit larger than the 13x16 paper. Then I used the scraps to go inside for the posts, so they would be hidden. First I used the adhesive hinges (which I attached to the black card-stock I bought from Neenah) to measure where to punch the holes. I put the posts and the all the hinges, bookboard and adhesive ones together so I knew what the thickness would be before taping hinges down to the covers.
Then I bought super heavy weight canvas fabric, about $10. I spray mounted it to the covers and edged it on the inside of the covers with book repair tape.
Then i got a funky fabric for a case and used the heavy weight fabric as a liner. I sewed a pocket on it and attached a magnetic button closure.
I still have to make handles and a strap. I wanted the shoulder strap to be removable, so my friend saw some overall hooks and we decided that would be a really cool way to do it.
It was a lot of time and sewing, but now I have the exact portfolio that I want. Check it.
